Laura Ingraham Scolds Romney For KBJ Vote, Predicts He’ll Run ‘Spoiler’ Campaign Against Trump
Laura Ingraham predicted Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) would run as a “spoiler” candidate in 2024 to keep former President Donald Trump out of the White House.
Romney joined fellow Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) in voting to confirm Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court on Thursday.
On The Ingraham Angle, the host singled out Romney for breaking with most Republicans.
“So, what is significant about the Republican support is that Judge Jackson faced justified heat during her confirmation battle over the multiple cases in which she sought leniency and early releases for child porn perps,” Ingraham said.
She asked the Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway for her thoughts on GOP support for Jackson. In particular Ingraham wanted her to opine on Romney’s willingness to work with Democrats.
Hemingway reminded Ingraham that Romney voted against Jackson recently for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
“He changed his position to vote for her, even though everything that came out in the confirmation hearing would have reasonably given someone like him because about confirming her to the highest court in the lands,” she said.
Hemingway concluded Romney has been “inconsistent” throughout his career. Ingraham stated she thinks Romney might run for president.
“My theory is that, that is completely in line with the possible Romney runs for president as a third-party to try to be as spoiler, especially if Trump runs again,” she said.
Hemingway said she would not be surprised to to see Romney run in 2024.
“He’s not known for having particularly good political instinct or strategy,” Hemingway said. “But it does seem that he got a lot of support from that Never Trump caucus.”
Romney became the first senator in U.S. history to vote to remove a president of his own party in 2020 when he voted to convict Trump on a charge of abuse of power.
