Phillies Slugger Kyle Schwarber Absolutely Loses His Mind After Blown Call from Infamous Ump Angel Hernandez

Notorious umpire Angel Hernandez has rankled baseball fans, players and managers for decades with his penchant for completely blowing calls. On Sunday, one star player totally lost patience with the ump after one such error cost his team dearly.

In the bottom of the ninth of the Philadelphia Phillies-Milwaukee Brewers game Sunday night, with the Phillies taking their last at-bat down 1-0, Hernandez called strike three on a pitch to Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber which appeared to be outside. Schwarber lost it, immediately slamming his bat and helmet and screaming at Hernandez over the call. The crowd cascaded Hernandez with boos, as Schwarber was immediately tossed from the game.

“I don’t blame Kyle Schwarber one bit,” ESPN announcer Eduardo Perez said.

“I’m surprised it took this long for somebody to have that kind of an outburst,” ESPN’s David Cone added.

The Twitter account umpire auditor, which tracks big league umpires, said that Hernandez missed 19 calls during the game — most of any umpire in the Majors on Sunday. They included video of the Schwarber call, and another earlier in the game on Jean Segura — which missed the plate by more than a half foot.
